Georg Michael Preu

Georg Michael Preu (born March 15, 1681 in Weißenburg im Nordgau ; † March 25, 1745 in Augsburg ) was a Lutheran theologian and writer . He comes from the Weißenburg patrician family of the Preu .

Life

Preu was born in the imperial city of Weißenburg in 1681 as the son of the citizen and tanner Johann Preu and his wife Sibylla, born. Kirschner, born. Under Johann Alexander Döderlein he attended the city's Latin school . From 1701 he studied philology , philosophy and theology at the University of Leipzig . On May 2, 1705, Prince Albrecht Ernst II of Oettingen appointed him head of the Protestant seminary in Oettingen . In addition, he also worked as a parish priest, first from 1710 in Magerbein and Kleinsorheim , from 1715 as archdeacon in Oettingen. In 1729 he was appointed deacon to St. Jakob in Augsburg and rose to pastor there in 1731. In 1736 he also took over the position of senior in the city's evangelical ministry .

He wrote numerous religious writings.

Preu was married three times. It is known that he is said to have fathered two sons in his first marriage, Georg Gottlieb (1710–1758) and Georg Peter Christoph.
