From 2004 to 2010 Pehm held the position of regional manager of the SPÖ Burgenland, then head of the European office and statistics in the office of the state government. Georg Pehm has been managing director of the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences since September 2012 .

education

Georg Pehm attended the Kobersdorf elementary school from 1970 to 1974 and the Mattersburg grammar school from 1974 to 1982 (graduation with Matura). From 1984 to 1992 he studied economics , political science and social law at the University of Vienna (degree mag. Rer. Soc. Oec.).

Political career

Pehm was sworn in as a member of the Austrian Federal Council on June 24, 2004 and in the second half of 2004 took over the office of Vice President of the Chamber of States. From January 1, 2005 to June 30, 2005 he was subsequently President of the Austrian Federal Council. In this function, Pehm stood up against the Carinthian Federal Councilor Siegfried Kampl , who spoke out against the rehabilitation of Wehrmacht deserters in April 2005 during a scandalous speech in the Austrian Federal Council. Ultimately, the constitution was changed - while von Pehm was still chairing the Federal Council - and Siegfried Kampl was prevented from becoming the next Federal Council President.

Pehm, who is assigned to the left wing in Austrian social democracy, has repeatedly spoken out against right-wing radicalism, violence and racism. For example, at the memorial meeting of the National Council and the Federal Council on the “Day against Violence and Racism”, he warned that those who were only born after the Nazi dictatorship and are responsible for ensuring that none of this is forgotten.

In the state elections in Burgenland in 2005 , Pehm acted as campaign manager for the state SPÖ and contributed significantly to the fact that the SPÖ Burgenland again achieved an absolute majority in the state parliament after 1982. After the state elections in 2005, Pehm moved from the Federal Council to the Burgenland state parliament , where he was sworn in on October 25, 2005. He was art and culture spokesman as well as budget and budget spokesman within the SPÖ state parliament club.

At the end of 2006, a secret paper between the SPÖ and the FPÖ, signed by Manfred Kölly and Pehm, became public . The secret paper was supposed to regulate the cooperation of the SPÖ with the FPÖ after the elections, secure the re-election of governor Hans Niessl and provide FPÖ politicians with lucrative posts and was written by the then FPÖ state party secretary Norbert Hofer . The agreement was never implemented.

Pehm did not stand in the state elections in Burgenland in 2010 and subsequently left the state parliament on June 24, 2010.
