Georg Quabbe

Georg Quabbe (born March 20, 1887 in Breslau , † July 17, 1950 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German lawyer and writer .

Life

Georg Quabbe was born in 1887. His father was the Breslau merchant Ferdinand Quabbe, his mother Anna, née Naundorf. He studied law and graduated with a doctorate to Dr. jur. from. In 1912 he worked as a court trainee in Breslau; on December 16 of the same year he married Erika Auguste Margarete Bucksch, a businessman's daughter. The marriage was divorced on October 5, 1915. His second wife was Elisabeth von Heyden, whom he married on May 19, 1922.

Quabbe, who was initially a member of the DNVP and later switched to the Conservative People's Party , is best known as the author of the major essay Tar a Ri. Variations on a Conservative Theme (1927). He thus represented within the so-called " conservative revolution " a moderate position oriented towards Edmund Burke and Thomas Mann ( considerations of an apolitical ). According to Quabbe, the title “Tar a Ri” is the Irish exclamation “Come, O King!”, From which the Tories party name is said to have been derived.

On October 17, 1946, Quabbe, who had refused to cooperate with the National Socialists , was appointed Public Prosecutor General in Hesse by the then Hessian Minister of Justice, Georg-August Zinn . Quabbe died in Frankfurt am Main in 1950 as a result of a stroke.
