Georg VIII. Riedesel zu Eisenbach (* May 17, 1588 ; † January 12, 1640 in Lauterbach ) from the Hermannsburg line of the barons Riedesel was hereditary marshal of the Hessian landgraves from 1632 to 1640 .

Georg Riedesel zu Eisenbach was the son of Volprecht II. Riedesel zu Eisenbach and his wife Beate von Berlepsch . The parents had 18 children, 10 of whom reached adulthood.

On November 25, 1622, he married Sophie Eleonore von Krosigk (born June 16, 1608), the daughter of the Anhalt councilor and court marshal Christoph von Krosigk . The marriage resulted in four sons and three daughters.

Life

Georg Riedesel zu Eisenbach attended school in Schlitz and later received private lessons at Ludwigseck Castle and Eisenbach Castle . In 1602 he attended high school in Marburg and from 1604 in Saarbrücken. In 1606 he attended the University of Tübingen , but was called home after the death of his mother on March 27, 1606 and did not resume his studies in Tübingen until autumn 1606. In November 1609 he returned home because his father had fallen ill and stayed at Eisenbach Castle after his father's death in 1610. After his brother Volprecht took over the management of the domestic goods, Georg went on a grand tour for the next six years and visited France, England and Italy. Due to his brother's illness, he returned on April 6, 1617 and, after his brother's death, took over the management of his own property the following year.

After the death of Volprecht Riedesel zu Eisenbach the Middle in 1632, he became hereditary marshal of the Hessian landgraves and inherited the rule of Riedesel .
