Volprecht IV. Riedesel zu Eisenbach (also Volpert ) (* July 10, 1578 ; † March 9, 1632 ) from the Ludwigseck line of the barons Riedesel was hereditary marshal of the Hessian landgraves from 1610 to 1632 .

Volprecht Riedesel zu Eisenbach was the eldest son of Konrad Riedesel zu Eisenbach (1546–1593) and his second wife Anna von Boineburg . The father was the only son of Hereditary Marshal Volprecht Riedesel zu Eisenbach . Between Volprecht (the younger) and his two brothers Georg (1580–1531) and Johann (1588–1632) the house of Riedesel was divided into the branches Ludwigseck (Volprecht), Altenburg (Georg) and Burg (Johann).

Volprecht Riedesel married Sidonie von Dörnberg on November 5, 1598 (* July 13, 1578 in Hausen ; † July 8, 1824 in Treysa ). In addition to the daughters Anna (1602–1625) and Anna Catharina (1612–1665), their son Kurt (1603–1665), who in 1640 became Hereditary Marshal of Hesse, was born. On July 3, 1625, Volprecht married Margarete Trott zu Solz for the second time . From this marriage the son Wilhelm Georg (1627–1667) and the daughter Apollonia (* 1629) emerged.

Life

Volprecht Riedesel zu Eisenbach initially received private lessons. From 1589 he attended the high school in Hersfeld and from 1591 the University of Strasbourg . On July 5, 1592, he enrolled at the University of Tübingen , but returned to Strasbourg in the autumn. At the beginning of 1594 he moved to the University of Marburg . A year later he went on a Grand Tour and visited Italy for several years.

In 1599 he joined the body regiment of Landgrave Moritz von Hessen-Kassel as an ensign . He took part in a campaign to Rees and one to Alsace and was appointed councilor at the Kassel court after his return. In 1603 he became captain in Rotenburg an der Fulda .

In 1609 his cousin Johann Riedesel zu Eisenbach died and he inherited the office of Hereditary Marshal and the rule of Riedesel . On March 1, 1614, he was appointed to the Hessen-Kassel Privy Council . On May 1, 1619 he became colonel of the fortress Ziegenhain ; he held this position until May 1, 1626.
