$ Georg Schumacher (born March 6, 1949 in Münster ) is a German mathematician who deals with questions of complex analysis (function theory of several complex variables) and complex geometry.

Life

Schumacher received his doctorate in 1974 with a thesis on local complex geometry under Reinhold Remmert in Münster.

In 1977/78 he was visiting professor at the University of Notre Dame . In 1981 he completed his habilitation in Münster, received a Heisenberg scholarship in 1984 and was a professor in Erlangen in 1986/87 and in Essen in 1987/88. In 1989 he was appointed Associate Professor (with tenure ) at the University of Notre Dame and calls to Bayreuth and the Ruhr University Bochum , where he was professor from 1989 to 1997 and headed the Graduate School Geometry and Mathematical Physics from 1990 to 1997 . Since 1997 he has been a professor at the Philipps University of Marburg .

He was visiting scholar at the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Kyoto, at the MSRI , at the Mittag-Leffler Institute , at Harvard University , at the University of Rome (Tor Vergata) , Tokyo, the University of Maryland in College Park , in Bangalore (ICTS), Iceland, the University of Adelaide , the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research , Taiwan and the Courant Institute . Among other things, he organized an Oberwolfach conference on Teichmüller theory in 1992 with Scott Wolpert .

His main research interests are deformation theory , Kähler's geometry and the theory of modular spaces of complex manifolds and holomorphic vector bundles .

He is co-author of the new editions of the two volumes of the theory of functions by Reinhold Remmert.
