Georg Stutz

Gustav Georg Stutz (born April 27, 1897 in Pratteln , † April 3, 1961 in Liestal ) was a Swiss psychiatrist .

Stutz obtained his Matura in Basel in 1915 and studied medicine at the Universities of Basel , Geneva and Zurich . In 1924 he received his doctorate in Basel. He completed his further training in psychiatry, but also somatic medicine, among others at the Allerheiligen sanatorium in Solothurn, where his brother Fritz Stutz was chief physician, and at the Rheinau sanatorium . He became senior physician at the Friedmatt Psychiatric Polyclinic in Basel and took over its management in 1926.

In 1932 Stutz was appointed chief physician and head of the Hasenbühl sanatorium and nursing home in Liestal, which he was involved in building from then on and which was inaugurated on June 1, 1934. He focused on insulin shock , sleep , twilight sleep, electric shock and occupational therapies , on psychopharmacological treatments and on psychoanalytic therapies . Stutz was a supporter of a social psychiatric approach . With the family care organization , patients were housed in families. He was a co-founder and long-time president of an advice center for those at risk from alcohol and in 1942 he was co-founder and consultant of the medical educational advice center in Baselland.

His successor as chief physician was Arnold Tschudin (1913–2003) in 1961.
