Georg Tumbülle (born August 29, 1856 in Münster , † April 1, 1947 in Donaueschingen ) was a Westphalian-Baden archivist and historian .

Life

Georg Tumbülle received his doctorate in philosophy from the academy in Münster in 1879 , where he began his studies. In the meantime, however, he had also attended the universities in Munich and Strasbourg . He began his professional career in the archives of Münster and Düsseldorf . In 1886 he was appointed archives secretary at the Princely Fürstenberg Archive in Donaueschingen and in 1899 he became the director of the archive as the successor to Franz Ludwig von Baumann . In 1903 he was promoted to archivist and in 1928 to senior archivist. On July 1 of the following year he retired.

His dissertation was on the subject of: Emperor Karl IV. And his relations with the Swabian imperial cities from 1370 to the establishment of the city union in 1376 and was published in Münster in 1879. While he dealt a lot with the history of his Westphalian home region in the early years of his academic activity, he later limited himself to the region of his adopted home in southwest Germany.

The platform for the publication of his scientifically historical works were the magazine for the history of the Upper Rhine and the writings of the Association for History and Natural History of the Baar and the neighboring regions in Donaueschingen . His collaboration in the publication of the Fürstenberg documents of the 16th century is particularly worth mentioning.

At times he also headed the Donaueschingen court library and the Princely Fürstenberg collections . From 1897 to 1930 he was chairman of the Baarverein , the association for the history and natural history of the Baar.
