Georg Winter (physician)

Georg Anton August Alexander Winter (born June 22, 1856 in Rostock , † March 13, 1946 in Baden-Baden ) was a German gynecologist, professor and rector of the University of Königsberg .

Life

Georg Winter, who grew up in Rostock as the son of the merchant and cloth merchant Johann Gottlieb Georg Winter, studied medicine in Rostock and Heidelberg from 1875 to 1881. After his doctorate (1881) he was an assistant at the Medical Clinic in Heidelberg from 1881 to 1883. He then worked as a ship's doctor for a Dutch shipping company. From 1884 to 1897 Winter was an assistant doctor at the University Women's Clinic in Berlin with Karl Schroeder and Robert von Olshausen . He completed his habilitation in Berlin in 1887 and was appointed associate professor at Berlin University in 1893. In 1897, Winters was appointed full professor and director of the University Women's Clinic at the University of Königsberg. In the 1912/13 year of office he was rector of the University of Königsberg. Winter retired in 1924; from 1934 he lived in Baden-Baden, where he died shortly after the end of the Second World War.

Winter had been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 1926 .

From 1890 until the divorce in 1939 he was married to the theater actress Maria Ortwin .
