Georg Zappert , Hungarian György Zappert , (* December 7, 1806 in Óbuda ; † November 23, 1859 in Vienna ) was a Hungarian-Austrian historian and medievalist.

Life

As the son of wealthy parents of Jewish origin , Zappert attended grammar school in Pesth and, after graduating from the University of Vienna , studied medicine. After converting to the Catholic Church in 1829, he switched to Catholic theology. Forced by illness and disability (incipient deafness), he had to give up this course in the second year. He then withdrew from academic operations and studies and devoted himself as a private scholar to his field of interest in researching the Middle Ages ( Medieval Studies ).

He published an " Old High German Schlummerlied " which is now considered a forgery .

The Vienna Academy of Sciences elected Zappert on July 28, 1851 as a corresponding member.
