Georg Zink

Georg Zink (born April 1, 1879 in Worms , † March 3, 1962 ) was a German librarian. He was a holder of the Federal Cross of Merit and an honorary citizen of the city of Sinsheim / Elsenz.

biography

After training with the Worms city administration, which began in 1896, Zink passed the state examination for financial and administrative services 1st class in 1899 and became assistant to the city clerk and the building secretariat. He then worked from 1901 to 1906 at the general library of the Grand Ducal Technical University of Darmstadt . After that he became head of the municipal reading hall and public library in Heidelberg until 1941 . He was a member of the Germania Heidelberg armed forces . During the First World War , Zink volunteered in 1915 and was called up to the 40th Infantry Regiment in Rastatt . He was employed in the administration in Ludwigshafen, Mannheim and Heidelberg.

Joined the NSDAP in 1933 , on June 17, 1933 he was the main speaker at the book burning - presumably on Jubilee Square - by the Hitler Youth . In October 1937, a “cleanup” of the holdings of the municipal public library was carried out in the interests of the National Socialists.

On July 10, 1939, Zink was called up as a Wehrmacht civil servant for an exercise at the Heeresverpflegungsamt Heidelberg, and on January 31, 1941, he retired.

In October 1945 he left Heidelberg due to an order from the military government. In his new place of residence, Sinsheim, he created a local history museum, to which he incorporated his theater history collection, founded the Association of Friends of Sinsheim History and a city archive. In 1955 he was made an honorary citizen of Sinsheim, and on January 28, 1961 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit .
