Hussein Ali Zaky , Arabic حسين على زكى, DMG Ḥusain ʿAlī Zakī (born March 1, 1979 in Alexandria , Egypt ), is an Egyptian handball player . He is 1.90 m tall and weighs 85 kg.

Zaky, who plays for the Egyptian club Al-Ahly and plays for the Egyptian men's national handball team, is usually used as the center of the backcourt .

Zaky was discovered in his home country by the top club in Zamalek . There he acquired the reputation of one of the greatest handball talents in Africa and convinced at the 2001 World Cup , so that in 2001 - as the first African ever - he was nominated for the election of World Handballer of the Year and in 2002 - after winning the African Champions League - also the first Afrikaner moved to Europe at all, namely to the Spanish top club BM Ciudad Real .

Here he won the Spanish championship in 2004 , the Copa del Rey de Balonmano in 2003 , the Copa ASOBAL in 2004 and 2005 , the Spanish Supercup in 2005 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2003 . But the Castilians had a rougher wind than Zamalek's, because Ciudad Real already had two world-class middle men in Talant Dujshebaev and Claus Møller Jakobsen . So in 2005 Zaky moved to the newly promoted CAI BM Aragón. With the team from Zaragoza , he reached the final of the EHF Cup in 2007 . There Aragón lost against the SC Magdeburg Gladiators without the injured Zaky .

Zaky has so far (as of January 19, 2009) played over 140 international matches for the Egyptian men's national handball team and is the flagship of handball in his home country. With the national team he won the African Championship in 2000 and 2004; at the 2001 World Cup in France, he was fourth and elected to the All-Star team . At the 2007 World Cup in Germany, he was eliminated with Egypt in the preliminary round, which only finished 17th. He took part in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , 2004 in Athens and 2008 in Beijing .
