Georg von Högelmüller
Georg Ritter von Högelmüller (born February 6, 1770 in Vienna ; † April 14, 1826 there ) was an officer and founder of the Austrian fire damage insurance company .
Life
From 1803 in the military, he sustained serious wounds in the Battle of Wagram in 1809. In 1810 he was promoted to major .
His main merit was the establishment of a mutual fire damage insurance company. Private insurance was only approved in 1824 after 19 years of efforts. For his initiatives to establish fire insurance, he was given honorary citizenship of the cities of Krems , Stein and Tulln .
In 1875 the Högelmüllergasse in Vienna- Margareten (5th district) was named after him.
