Georg von Petersenn

Georg (Georges) Ferdinand of Petersenn (born September 1 . Jul / 13 September 1849 greg. In Wolmar / Livonia in the Baltic States; † 14. November 1930 in Gaienhofen on Lake Constance ) was a German professor of music.

Georg von Petersenn was the youngest of five children of Heinrich von Petersenn and his wife Jutta, geb. Baroness von Engelhardt. Upon successful completion of the high school he studied in Tartu from 1870 to 1872 Jura , then to 1875 Music in Würzburg and Munich . He also gave piano lessons privately. On April 11, 1882, he married his student Bertha Rindfleisch, who was 13 years his junior and daughter of the respected pathologist Prof. Eduard von Rindfleisch . The marriage resulted in a child: daughter Jutta (born in Berlin in 1888). In 1911, Jutta von Petersenn married Hermann Lietz , founder of the first German rural education homes .

In 1884 the couple moved from Petersenn to Berlin . There Georg von Petersenn received a professorship at the “Königl. Hochschule für Musik ”(today incorporated into the Berlin University of the Arts ). When his wife, Bertha von Petersenn , moved her “Landerziehungsheim für Mädchen” from Stolper See to the castle of Gaienhofen on Lake Constance in 1904 (which was first leased and acquired by Georg von Petersenn in 1905), he taught music there. The nobleman remained connected to the school of the same name until his death.
