Georg von Schechingen
Georg von Schechingen († August 9, 1481 ) was abbot of the Auhausen monastery from 1450 until his death .
Life
Little is known about the life of Georg von Schechingen before his appointment as abbot. Before being elected abbot of Auhausen Abbey, he lived in Ellwangen Abbey .
The convent elected him to succeed the resigned Abbot Wilhelm von See . Pope Nicholas V , however, spoke out against the election. Instead of Schechingen, he wanted the monk Lorenz Eckard from the Viennese Schottenstift to be elected abbot and commissioned the Bishop of Eichstätt, Johann III. von Eych to introduce him as abbot. Georg von Schechingen had the support of Margrave Albrecht . The Pope then imposed an interdict and banished the monastery at the same time. This sentence was extended to four years.
In today's Protestant parish church , the former Benedictine monastery church of St. Maria in Auhausen , there is an epitaph for him. As a relief, the deceased is shown in official costume under a double arch. The family coats of arms can be seen on the side.
