George Allison (born October 24, 1883 in Darlington , † March 13, 1957 in London ) was an English football coach , football official, sports journalist and broadcaster.

life and career

Allison began his journalistic career in his northeastern homeland before moving to London in 1905 . For Arsenal Allison came as a broadcaster. Allison commented on the very first FA Cup final of Arsenal FC against Cardiff City in 1927. He was also known for his moderation in popular dog races in England . He later became president of Arsenal FC, a position he held until the unexpected death of then-coach Herbert Chapman , which resulted in his becoming the first-team coach in 1934. As a coach, he won the English championship twice and the English cup once with the team. The successful coach even appeared in the 1939 film The Arsenal Stadium Mystery , where he had a speaking role. Allison was one of the first coaches to have many helpers, including Joe Shaw and Tom Whittaker to lead the training. In 1947, two years after World War II , he ended his coaching career. George Allison died of a serious and protracted illness on March 13, 1957 at the age of 73 .
