George Arnulph Montgomerie , 15th Earl of Eglington , 3rd Earl of Winton (born February 23, 1848 , † August 10, 1919 in Ayrshire , Scotland ) was a Scottish nobleman and tennis player.

Life

Montgomerie was born in 1848 to Archibald Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglington, and his wife Theresa Newcomen. His brother was Seton Montolieu Montgomerie . He married Janet Lucretia Cuninghame in 1873. Montgomerie served as a lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards . He later held the post of Lord Lieutenant of the County of Ayrshire.

Between 1878 and 1887 he participated regularly in the Wimbledon Championships . He achieved his best result there in 1880 , when he was able to advance to the semifinals and finally lost to Otway Edward Woodhouse in five sets.

He died in 1919 at the age of 71.
