Player career

College career

George Flint was born in Pennsylvania. After World War II , he moved with his parents to Arizona , where he first in Florence and then in Phoenix , the high school attended. After graduating from high school, he attended junior college before joining Arizona State University . His studies there were initially short-lived. Disappointed that he did not get any time as a football player with the Arizona State Sun Devils , he left college to join the United States Marine Corps . After his discharge from the military, he asked his old college if he could take part in trial training. Flint convinced and finally received a football scholarship in 1959 . Flint played for the Sun Devils as a defensive tackle and an offensive tackle . He and his team won the championship in the Border Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1959 and 1961 . Because of his athletic achievements, he was awarded three times by his college and elected three times in the league selection. Flint weighed 90 kg when he was a student, which was exceptionally light for a tackle. Several NFL scouts showed interest in him, but then refrained from approaching him. It was only after a college selection game that the Buffalo Bills showed interest and offered him a professional contract.

Professional career

George Flint joined the Buffalo Bills in 1962, who paid him $ 200 on signing the contract and guaranteed him an annual salary of $ 9,000. Flint signed the contract and turned down an offer from the Toronto Argonauts from the CFL, who wanted to pay him $ 10,000. Flint was used by the coach of the Bills, Lou Saban , as a guard and thus had to ensure the protection of quarterback Jack Kemp, among other things . In 1964, the Bills managed to win twelve of 14 games in the regular season and move into the AFL championship game against the San Diego Chargers supervised by Sid Gillman . The Bills were able to prevail with 20: 7. In 1965 the Bills were able to repeat their success. They beat the Chargers 23-0 in the AFL final. The 1965 season was also a successful year for Flint personally. He was elected to the Pro Bowl after the game round . However, this achievement was not honored by the Bills. In exchange for Bo Roberson , the Buffalo team gave George Flint to the Oakland Raiders . Due to an injury, however, he was never used for the Californians . Flint moved to the CFL after the season and played for the BC Lions for a year . In 1968 Flint returned to the Bills and ended his career after that season.
