George Harrington
George Harrington (* 1815 in Boston , Massachusetts , † December 5, 1892 at sea) was an American diplomat .
Live and act
Born in Boston and later Georgia resident, George Harrington joined the Department of the Treasury during the presidency of James Knox Polk . Under his friend Salmon Portland Chase , he became office manager and rose on March 13, 1861 to the ministerial director of the department. In 1860 Harrington attended the Republican National Convention as a Republican delegate for Washington, DC . After the attack on Abraham Lincoln , he was responsible for organizing Lincoln's funeral. From July 7, 1865 to July 20, 1869, Harrington was the successor to George G. Fogg "Minister Resident" in Switzerland .
Harrington founded the American Telegraph Works company on October 1, 1870 with Thomas Alva Edison , which existed until January 1873. He died in 1892 while a ship was to take him to Paris .
