The George M. Sullivan Arena (short: Sullivan Arena ) is a multi-purpose hall in the US city of Anchorage in the State of Alaska .
history
The foundation stone for the building was laid in August 1981. The hall was opened on February 8, 1983. The construction costs amounted to around 25 million US dollars . The architects Luckman and Harold Wirum designed the venue, which was named after the former mayor of Anchorage, George M. Sullivan (1922-2009). The hall with a maximum capacity of 8,935 spectators is mainly used for the sports of ice hockey , basketball , boxing and wrestling . The University of Alaska Anchorage NCAA ice hockey team , the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves , have been based in the arena since 1983. From 1989 to 2017, the Alaska Aces ice hockey team played their home games here in various leagues. The franchise has been based in Portland , Maine as Maine Mariners since 2018 . The arena football team of the Alaska Wild ( IFL / IFL ) spent four seasons from 2007 to 2010 in the Sullivan Arena.
In addition to sport, u. a. Concerts , fairs and exhibitions take place in the Sullivan Arena.
