George McAnthony

George McAnthony (* 6. April 1966 in Appiano on the Wine Route , South Tyrol as Georg Spitaler , † 8. July 2011 in Terracina ) was an Italian Country - singer - musician and songwriter . George McAnthony was his stage name.

Live and act

George McAnthony grew up in Eppan on the Wine Route , where he lived until his death. Before he turned entirely to music, he learned the carpentry trade . Since 1988 he has concentrated entirely on his music career and chose the stage name in memory of his late father Anton. His music took him particularly through Italy , but also to Austria , Germany , Switzerland and France . He has recorded 15 albums, three of them in Nashville .

McAnthony designed the performances as a one-man band and operated up to seven instruments at the same time - live , without playbacks or technical aids. He played 12-string guitar , mandolin , dobro or electric guitar and accompanied himself with a harmonica , kazoo and a drum kit consisting of a bass drum , hi-hat , snare drum and tambourine .

In addition to his own compositions, which deal with stories from everyday life and the values ​​of life, George also played evergreens from the classic country and folk repertoire.

Highlights of his career were a duet with John Denver and numerous television appearances. The country musician has received three international awards: "Best Artist", "Best Male Performer " and "Best Country Song of the Year".

Apart from his musical career, George McAnthony was involved in charitable and voluntary activities, particularly in development cooperation. In addition, he designed the program Country Time as a freelancer for the RAI broadcaster Bolzano for many years .

In April 2010, George McAnthony recorded his album Dust Off My Boots in the Hilltop Studios in Nashville, Tennessee , accompanied by Brent Mason, Paul Franklin and Bryan Sutton, among others. This CD and the CD Country & Western Collection , on which the best pieces from the previous CDs can be found, were distributed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by the Bogner Records label.

On May 18, 2011, George McAnthony was nominated by the “ECMA - European Country Music Association” for two European Country Music Awards in the categories “Best European Album Of The Year” and “Best Vocal Collaboration of the Year”. The nominations were selected based on the European radio presence from May 2009 to May 2010. These are the album Bridge To El Dorado and George McAnthony's duet with Jacqueline van der Griendt on the song of the same name. In the “Best Vocal Collaboration” category, George McAnthony was nominated alongside artists such as Carrie Underwood, Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Bruce Springsteen and Brooks & Dunn.

On July 8, 2011, McAnthony suffered a fatal heart attack on Terracina Beach .
