George Manangoi gained his first experience in international championships at the 2017 World Youth Championships in Nairobi , where he won the gold medal in 3: 47.53 minutes. The following year he won the U20 World Championships in Tampere, Finland in 3: 41.71 minutes and in 3: 47.55 minutes at the Junior African Championships in Abidjan in 2019 . He then took part in the Africa Games in Rabat and also won there in 3: 38.27 min and thus qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where he was eliminated with 3: 38.39 min in the first round .
