George Treadwell

George Treadwell (* 21st December 1919 in New Rochelle , † 14. May 1967 in New York City ) was an American jazz - trumpet player , composer and music manager.

In 1941/42 he played in the house band of Clark Monroe's Uptown House , in late 1942 in Florida with Benny Carter , in the Sunset Royal Orchestra of pianist Ace Harris and with Tiny Bradshaw . From 1943 to 1946 he was with Cootie Williams and 1946/47 with JC Heard , where he met Sarah Vaughan , whom he married in 1947. He recorded with Dicky Wells and in 1946 with Ethel Waters . With Dusty Fketcher's union of Open the Door, Richard! it had a hit on the R&B charts in 1947 .

At the end of the 1940s he gave up the music profession and became the manager of his wife Sarah Vaughan, which he remained until their divorce in 1957. He was also the manager of The Drifters and Ruth Brown . From 1959 he also worked as a rhythm & blues composer.
