George W. Sarbacher

George William Sarbacher Jr. (born September 30, 1919 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  March 4, 1973 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1947 and 1949 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Sarbacher attended public schools in his home country and then Olney High School until 1938 . This was followed by a study at Temple University in Philadelphia until 1942 . Between 1942 and 1947 he served in the Marine Corps , where he was promoted to captain. This time also included the Second World War . He served in the South Pacific for two and a half years of his military service. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1946 was Sarbacher, who was still in the military at that time, in the fifth constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeded the on January 3rd, 1947 Democrat William J. Green took the he had beaten in the election. Since he lost to Green in 1948, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1949 . This was shaped by the events of the Cold War .

In 1950, Sarbacher applied unsuccessfully to return to the Congress. In the years after his departure from the US House of Representatives, he was, among other things, department director of the Pennsylvania State Highway Authority responsible for safety on the local highways. He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of National Scientific Laboratories, Inc. in Washington DC and NSL Electronics, Ltd. in Hamilton ( Canada ). Sarbacher also acted as an industrial advisor and was chairman of a Postal Service Management Advisory Team . He died in Bethesda on March 4, 1973.
