George Arthur Wynn (born October 14, 1886 in Treflach near Oswestry , † October 28, 1966 in Abergele near Conwy ) was a Welsh football player . He was a striker , played most of his career in England and competed for the Welsh national team .
career
Wynn began his career with Oswestry United in 1906 . The following year he won the Welsh Cup with his club , scoring the final goal of the 2-0 win over Whitchurch . A few weeks after the cup final, Wynn was signed by AFC Wrexham . His first international match for Wales he played on March 1, 1909 against Scotland in a game of the British Home Championship at the Racecourse Ground stadium in Wrexham ; Wales won this game 3-2. Wynn scored his only international goal in a 3-2 win over Ireland , which also took place at the Racecourse Ground.
In May 1909 Wynn moved for the then high sum of £ 250 to the English second division club Manchester City . On Christmas 1909 he made his debut for the Blues in a 2-0 loss to Bradford Park Avenue . Two days later he scored his first goal for his new club against Grimsby Town .
In the 1909/10 season, Wynn scored eleven goals in 24 games, helping City to the Second Division championship. In the following three seasons he was the team's top scorer with nine, 16 and 18 goals. After that, his career was shortened by the outbreak of the First World War . In 1919, shortly after the resumption of league football, Wynn played his last game for Manchester City from a total of 127 games, in which he had scored 59 goals.
After playing for Wales in the so-called Victory games - unofficial international matches between the national teams of Wales and England after the end of the World War - Wynn moved to Coventry City for £ 300 , where he played 25 games in two seasons. Finally, he let his career at Halifax Town and the AFC Mossley end.
