George von Brunnow

Baron Ernst George von Brunnow (born April 6, 1796 in Dresden ; † May 5, 1845 there ) was a versatile writer and translator .

Life

Origin and family

He comes from the Courland Line of the noble family of Brunnow . His parents were the Electorate Colonel Johann Ernst von Brunnow (1751-1822) and his wife Maria Elisabeth Philippine von Lieven (1762-1844). The Russian diplomat Philipp Graf von Brunnow was his brother.

Career

Brunnow studied at the University of Leipzig in the years 1815 to 1819, first Jura . From the year 1829 took up a philosophy study . In addition to his writing as a novelist and poet , he was an assessor for the state government in Dresden.

In 1816, in Leipzig, he met Samuel Hahnemann , the inventor of homeopathy , who treated him for an eye problem. From then on, Brunnow was committed to promoting homeopathy among the European aristocracy and translated one of Hahnemann's works into French and Latin.
