Georges Cirot

Georges Eugène Alfred Cirot (born February 25, 1870 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , † November 27, 1946 in Bordeaux ) was a French historian, Romance scholar , Hispanist and literary scholar.

Life

Cirot studied from 1891 with Ferdinand Brunot and Alfred Morel-Fatio at the École normal supérieure of Paris (ENS). He taught from 1896 at the University of Bordeaux , from 1898 Hispanic studies. In the same year he founded the magazine Bulletin hispanique together with Ernest Mérimée and Alfred Morel-Fatio , in which he published throughout his life. He qualified as a professor at the Sorbonne in 1904 with the two Thèses Mariana historien and Les histoires générales d'Espagne entre Alphonse X and Philippe II. 1284–1556 . Cirot was from 1906 to 1937 full professor of Hispanic studies (and most recently dean ) at the University of Bordeaux.
