Career

Eighteen-year-old Eckhard Deterding played with TuS Bremerhaven 93 from the 1966/67 season in the Regionalliga Nord , in the first year relegation could just be avoided. In his two other years at Bremerhaven, a place in the middle of the table was achieved at the end of the season. After a total of 66 regional league games with 14 goals, he moved to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga for the 1969/70 season . In the two years at Werder he saw three coaches in quick succession - Fritz Rebell , Hans Tilkowski and Robert Gebhardt - with whom he came 11th and 10th at the end of the season. During his time in Bremen, Deterding could never fight for a regular place, he played 16 times and scored once. For the 1971/72 season , Deterding went back to the regional league at Olympia Wilhelmshaven , where he stayed for a year, completed 30 other regional league games and scored six goals for the team from Jadebusen. Then he was hired again in the Bundesliga, this time he was drawn to Hannover 96 . He played first class with Hannover for two more years. In the first year the 16th place in the table was won, in the second Hannover was last and relegated. Deterding left the club and played for Preußen Münster during the 1973/74 season . In the last of the old second-rate regional league, he came in the West for the Prussians on 21 missions and scored 14 goals. From 1974/75 to 1975/76, two years followed in the newly installed 2nd Bundesliga . Deterding scored 16 goals in 53 league appearances. This was followed by a year at Bonner SC and a year at KSV Baunatal , each in the second division. His last professional year, the 1978/79 season, led the "Laufwunder" back to the "Reds" of Hannover 96, where he scored two goals in 25 second division games.
