Georges Gobat

Georges Gobat (born July 1, 1600 in Charmoille , † March 23, 1679 in Constance ) was a Jesuit and moral theologian .

Georges Gobat, from what was then the Principality of Basel , joined the Jesuit order in 1618 and was ordained priest in 1629. He was professor of philosophy (1631–1640) and moral theology (1641–1666) in Freiburg im Üechtland . He also taught philosophy, speculative theology, exegesis and above all moral theology at colleges and seminars in Lucerne, Hall in Tirol, Regensburg and Munich. He was rector of the institutions in Hall in Tirol (1647–1651) and Freiburg (1654–1656). From 1656 he taught moral theology in Constance and also became a penitentiary . Gobat was buried in the Konstanz Minster .

He published numerous writings. The best known was the posthumous collection Opera moralia omnia (1701).
