Georges M. Saad Abi Younes

Georges M. Saad Abi Younes OLM (born April 18, 1948 in Hammana , Lebanon ) has been the Maronite Bishop of the Eparchy Nuestra Señora de los Martires del Libano en México since 2003 .

Life

For Georges Abi Younes, the path to becoming a clergyman opened up during the first years of school and so he entered the Lebanese Maronite Order in 1967 . He took his religious vows on January 17, 1969 and has been a religious priest of the Baladites since July 3, 1977 . From 1970 he studied literature , philosophy and theology and graduated in 1977 with a diploma and a bachelor's degree . Until 1984 he worked as a secretary at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Heilig-Geist-Universität Kaslik and at the same time as a pastor .

In Canada

In 1981 he completed additional studies at the Universities of Montréal and Laval in Canada . From 1984 to 1988 he worked in the Maronite diocese of Montréal in Canada and developed extensive pastoral and missionary projects.

In Mexico

In 1988 he took over the post of Deputy Rector of the Lebanese Mission in Mexico . On 26 July 1995 he was appointed Superior appointed the Lebanese mission in Mexico and on February 22, 1997 appointed him his predecessor Bishop Pierre Wadih Tayah to his vicar general for the Maronite Eparchy in Mexico. He was appointed bishop by Pope John Paul II on February 22, 2003 and consecrated bishop on April 26, 2003 by the Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir . As co-consecrators assisted Bishop Roland Aboujaoudé and Archbishop Joseph Mohsen Béchara of Cyprus .
