Georgina Rippon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georgina Rippon is a British psychophysiologist and neuroscientist . She is Professor of Cognitive Neuroimaging at the School of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University and Principal Scientist at the Aston Brain Center and was instrumental in the development of a pediatric magnetoencephalography system for the study of developmental disorders . Rippon was President of the British Psychophysiology Society (today: British Association of Cognitive Neuroscience, BACN). She has been Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) at Aston University since 2012 .

Rippon's research interests include the application of neuroimaging techniques, particularly electroencephalography and magnetoencephalography (MEG) using cognitive neuroscience paradigms to studies of normal and abnormal cognitive processes. The focus is particularly on the functional significance of variations in the frequency characteristics of cortical signals and in the mapping of the functional connectivity between cortical areas. Her work has been applied to the study of autistic spectrum disorders and dyslexia .

In addition, together with the MEG research team, she is looking for ways to enable the temporal resolution of this technology to the spatial resolution with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). This allows classic cognitive neuroscientific problems in e.g. B. linguistic processing, learning and memory - and affect- cognition interactions are explored and the spatial-temporal dynamics of the underlying neural networks are followed.

Career

Georgina Rippon graduated from Bedford College with a bachelor's degree in psychology and then received her PhD in psychophysiology from Birkbeck College . In 1975 she was appointed to the newly established Department of Psychology at the University of Warwick , where she remained until 2000. Parallel them from 1984 to 1985 "Honorary Research Fellow" ( Assistant Professor honorary) in the neuroscience unit of Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry from 1991 to 1996 as a consultant in the Army Personnel Research Establishment (APRE) in Farnborough from 1993 to 2000 Honorary research Fellow at the department of behavioral and cognitive research of the Imperial College School of Medicine , in 1999 as a visiting researcher at the University of Wisconsin in Madison , and from January to July 2000 as a research assistant at the center for Human sciences of the Defense evaluation and research Agency in Farnborough active. In 2000 she was appointed to Aston University as Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Deputy Director of the Neuroscientific Research Institute. In 2003 she became Head of Psychology and Dean of Postgraduate Programs at the School of Life and Health Sciences (LHS). In 2005 she became deputy head of the LHS. In 2008 she became dean of international relations at the LHS, visiting Korea , Vietnam , Singapore , Malaysia and Japan as well as Australia and the USA . In 2012 she assumed the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) at Aston University.
