List of mental and behavioral disorders according to ICD-10
The currently valid version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) lists mental and behavioral disorders in Chapter V. There are also disorders of psychological development included.
The fifth chapter is further subdivided into 10 subsections according to disease groups. The letter F means an indication of a mental disorder - additional digits allow more precise information. The WHO publishes the chapter on mental and behavioral disorders in different versions (see literature ):
- International classification of mental disorders (rough guidelines for clinical application)
- Diagnostic criteria for research and practice (more differentiated for research purposes)
- Mental disorders in practice (tailored to general practitioner care )
General
Classifying a mental disorder according to its symptoms is part of the diagnosis . For this there is the DSM-5 , a psychiatric classification system in the USA. It is largely compatible with the ICD-10, which means that diagnoses can be recoded between the two systems.
A chapter on mental illness has only existed in the ICD since 1948 (ICD-6). Significant innovations in the changeover from ICD-9 to ICD-10 were the waiver of evaluative terms (e.g. neurosis or endogenous ), the principle of comorbidity and the specification of more precise diagnostic criteria.
