Pseudodebility is the inhibition of development in children and adolescents (sometimes also in adults) due to external influences (e.g. war , lack of care and love , insufficient instruction , neglect).

It is not a question of a mental handicap , but a temporary disruption or delay in development (retardation), which can be reversed with sufficient stimulation and appropriate instruction.

The pseudodebility has no number of its own in the ICD-10 classification, but is counted among the “other dissociative disorders” with the code F44.88, which it shares with psychogenic confusion and the psychogenic twilight state .

Symptoms and ailments

The signs of pseudodebility are, for example, (alleged) ignorance and inability ; for example, the simplest questions are answered incorrectly. For example “3 + 5 = 40” or “What is the color of the sky? - Red! ”. Also, the memory , the motor skills , the social behavior and adaptability can be reduced. Sometimes there are all signs of a “real” debility , so that the two clinical pictures look similar to one another.
