Gerald Freihofner

Gerald Freihofner (born July 30, 1946 in Steyr , Upper Austria ; † October 22, 2019 ) was an Austrian journalist .

Between 1974 and 1990 he was head of the domestic affairs department of the weekly press (renamed Wirtschaftswoche in 1991 ) in the chief editor. Thanks to his research in countless cover stories, the background to the Lucona case was revealed , which resulted in the resignation of two ministers. From 1995 to 2001 he was visiting professor at the Danube University in Krems (EJA - European Journalism Academy ).

For many years Freihofner headed the Friedrich Funder Institute for Journalist Training and Media Research as President and most recently worked as a freelance journalist in Vienna and Lower Austria .

Freihofner had been a member of the Catholic student association KaV Norica Vienna in the ÖCV since 1968 .
