Gerald Kurt Leutert (born July 16, 1929 in Waldheim , † June 1, 1999 in Leipzig ) was a German anatomist .

Gerald Leutert was born in Waldheim in 1929. He studied human medicine at the University of Leipzig . He then worked under Kurt Alverdes (1896–1959) in anatomy and Max Bürger (1885–1966) in the Clinic for Internal Medicine at the University of Leipzig.

It was not until 1957 that he finally decided on anatomy. There he was in 1953 with a thesis on "the musculus peroneus longus tendon in the construction of the area of the outer edge of the foot over" doctorate Service. 1962 Leutert was Rolf Bertolini with a thesis "On histological Biomorphose of human vocal folds" in the subject Anatomy habilitation and 1963 Prosektor appointed. In 1969 he was appointed professor of macroscopic anatomy.

From 1970 he continued the age research under the name Gerontology . He did this together with the internist Werner Ries , the clinical chemist Wolfgang Rotzsch (1930–2008) (both like him a student of Max Bürger ) and the biophysicist Walter Beier , founder of the Institute for Biophysics at the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig.

After Bertolini was appointed to the chair of anatomy at the Humboldt University in Berlin , Leutert first became acting and then director of the institute in Leipzig in 1980. In February 1990 he was elected prorector for medicine and in June 1990 ad interim rector of the University of Leipzig. He held this office until 1991. After that he worked again as prorector and institute director until his illness in 1995.

Gerald Leuter died in 1999 at the age of 69.
