Geraldo Washington Regufe Alves (born November 8, 1980 in Póvoa de Varzim ), called Geraldo (also Geraldo Alves ), is a former Portuguese football player .

Life

Geraldo is the son of the Brazilian Washington, who was also a footballer, and brother of Bruno Alves , who plays for Parma Calcio . Since his mother is Portuguese, he, like his brother, has Portuguese citizenship.

Career

Geraldo began his career at Varzim SC , a club from his hometown. After a year he was brought to Benfica Lisbon, for whom he played in his youth. After he spent the first two years in the reserve of Glorioso , he came to the professional squad for the 2001/02 season . That same season he moved to SC Beira-Mar , where he saw more prospects. After he could not prevail there, he was transferred to Gil Vicente on a free transfer at the end of the season in the summer break . After a disappointing year, he moved to FC Paços de Ferreira in 2003 , where he stayed for four years and played 90 times in the league (nine goals).

In summer 2007, the defender moved to AEK Athens in the Greek Super League for € 400,000 . In the 2008/09 season he lost his regular place to the Swede Daniel Majstorović . His contract with AEK ran until June 30, 2010. He then moved to Steaua Bucharest in the Romanian League 1 . There he won the Romanian Cup in 2011 . In the summer of 2012 he left Steaua and joined the league rivals Petrolul Ploieşti . There he won his second title with the 2013 cup . In summer 2015 he moved to league competitor Astra Giurgiu , with whom he won the championship in 2016 .
