The Cupa României was played for the 75th time in the 2012/13 season. The official name of the competition was "Cupa României Timișoreana ". In the final Petrolul Ploieşti beat CFR Cluj 1-0 and qualified for the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League .

The clubs of League 1 only got in in the round of the last 32 teams. Only one game was played at a time, the semi-finals were decided in the first and second leg. If only one game took place and it was tied after 90 minutes or if no decision could be made in both games taking into account the away goals rule , an extension of 30 minutes followed. If after that there was still no decision, the decision was made on penalties .
