The Cupa României was played for the 70th time in the 2007/08 season. The official name of the competition was "Cupa României Timișoreana ". In the final, which was played in the Ceahlăul stadium in Piatra Neamț , CFR Cluj won 2-1 against Unirea Urziceni and was able to win the cup for the first time. As Cluj also won the championship , Unirea qualified for the UEFA Cup .

The clubs of League 1 only got in in the round of the last 32 teams. From the sixteenth finals onwards, all games took place on a neutral pitch. Only one game was played at a time. If this was a draw after 90 minutes, an extension of 30 minutes followed. If after that there was still no decision, the decision was made on penalties . A total of 203 clubs took part.
