Bogdan Sorin "Motanul" Stancu (born June 28, 1987 in Piteşti , Argeş County ) is a Romanian football player .

Career

Stancu, a striker, started playing for Steaua Bucharest in the 2008/2009 season after having played for three different clubs in the Romanian top division since 2005. In the 2010/2011 winter break, Stancu finally moved to Galatasaray Istanbul for 5 million euros . For the 2011/12 season, Stancu played on loan at Orduspor .

In the summer of 2012, the move to first division newcomer Kasımpaşa Istanbul was announced. But this change did not materialize.

On July 4, 2012, Stancu was signed by Orduspor against payment of a transfer fee . In his second season for Orduspor, Stancu scored 10 goals in 30 league games. These goals could not prevent Orduspor's relegation to the TFF 1st Lig . After the season, Orduspor separated from the striker.

For the 2013/14 season , Stancu signed a three-year contract with Gençlerbirliği Ankara . In the seasons 2013/14 (28 games, 13 goals), 2014/15 (24 games, 9 goals) and 2015/16 (29 games, 10 goals) Stancu was used as a regular player. Gençlerbirliği Ankara placed in the middle of the Süper Lig season table.

In January 2017, Stancu moved within the league to Bursaspor . After two years he returned to the club Gençlerbirliği, which had been relegated to the TFF 1st Lig in the meantime .

National team

On August 11, 2010, Stancu played his first game for the Romanian national soccer team against Turkey . In the game against Albania on September 3 of the same year as part of the qualification for the European Championship 2012 , he scored his first goal.

Since then, Stancu has been a regular part of the Romanian selection. He was used in the qualifying games for the 2014 World Cup , but ultimately failed in the relegation games due to the selection of Greece (1: 3, 1: 1).

Romania qualified for the 2016 European Championship in France. Stancu was then appointed by coach Anghel Iordănescu in the Romanian final squad. In the opening game against the French national team , Stancu was on the starting line-up and was able to mark the interim 1: 1 with a penalty (final score: 1: 2). In the second game, too, he converted a penalty to make it 1-0, which opponents Switzerland equalized. He scored the only two goals in Romania and were eliminated after losing their third game to Albania.

In February 2018, Stancu announced his resignation from the national team.
