The Cupa României in the 1956 season was the 19th tournament for the Romanian Football Cup . The winner was the club Progresul Oradea , which was able to prevail in the final on December 9, 1956 against the second division Energia Câmpia Turzii . Defending champion CCA Bucharest was eliminated in the semifinals against the new title holder.

The clubs of Divizia A only got in the round of the last 32 teams and had to play away first. Only one game was played at a time. If this was a draw after 90 minutes, an extension of 30 minutes followed. If after that there was still no decision, the visiting team moved on to the next round.
