Manuel José Azevedo Vieira (born February 4, 1981 in Vila Nova de Gaia , Portugal ) is a Portuguese football player . The defender has been under contract with Gondomar SC since the beginning of 2017 . He is mainly used as a right defender.

Career

Manuel José started his career at FC Porto in 2000 and was loaned out to CF União Lamas for half a year in 2001 . Then he returned to FC Porto. In January 2003 he moved to Académica Coimbra . However, he stayed there again for only half a year and switched to Vitória Guimarães . From January 2004 to June 2005 he played with Vitória Setúbal , after which he signed a contract with Boavista Porto . 2006 changed the club and came to CFR Cluj . On February 6, 2009 it was announced that he had terminated his contract. He played his last game for Cluj on December 1, 2008. His team won 2-1 against Gaz Metan Mediaş .

Manuel José returned to Portugal in early 2009 and signed with first division club FC Paços de Ferreira . He established himself as a regular player and was able to place his team mostly in the midfield of the Primeira Liga . He ended the 2012/13 season with his club in third place in the table, which meant participation in the qualification for the Champions League . There he scored a goal against Zenit Saint Petersburg , but could not prevent relegation to the Europa League . There he retired with his team in the group stage. The following season he finished with his team only on the penultimate place and secured himself in the relegation class. In the 2015/16 season it was rarely used. In the summer of 2016, he left the club after seven years and moved to Leixões SC in the Segunda Liga . He has been playing for Gondomar SC since the beginning of 2017 .
