Gerard Francis Loft
Gerard Francis Loft S.M. (Born April 6, 1933 in Wellington , New Zealand ; † February 4, 2007 in Beachhaven, Auckland , New Zealand) was Bishop of Auki in the Malaita Province of the Solomon Islands .
Life
Gerard Francis Loft joined the order of the Marist Fathers . He made his profession in 1954 and was ordained a priest there on July 20, 1958 . In 1959 he came to the Solomon Islands as a pastor.
In 1983 he was appointed by John Paul II as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Auki and Malaita . He was ordained bishop on March 11, 1984 by the Archbishop of Honiara, Solomon Islands, Daniel Willem Stuyvenberg ; Co- consecrators were Peter Kurongku , Archbishop of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and Eusebius John Crawford , Bishop of Gizo, Solomon Islands.
In 2004, John Paul II's resignation was granted.
