Gerd-Axel Ahrens

Gerd-Axel Ahrens (born October 2, 1948 in Lübbecke ) is a German civil engineer and traffic planner . Until August 31, 2015 he held the chair for traffic and infrastructure planning at the faculty of traffic sciences "Friedrich List" at the Technical University of Dresden .

Life

Ahrens studied civil engineering and urban construction at the TU Braunschweig from 1970 to 1976 . From 1975 to 1976 he studied on a Fulbright scholarship at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh ( USA ). In 1977 he initially worked as a traffic engineer in Vienna. From 1978 he worked as a research assistant at the TU Braunschweig, which led to his doctorate in 1983 .

In the same year he was employed as a construction trainee for urban construction with the state of Lower Saxony . 1985 the second state examination for assessor of the building subject followed in Frankfurt am Main . From 1985 he was a research assistant at the Federal Environment Agency in Berlin . From 1991 Ahrens was head of the traffic department at the Senator for Building and Environment of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .

In 2000 he was appointed professor for traffic and infrastructure planning at the faculty of traffic sciences in Dresden. Between 2003 and 2006 he was dean of the faculty.

Ahrens has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Urban Development since 2002 .

He held the chair until August 31, 2015. His successor was Regine Gerike on September 1, 2015 .
