Gerd Antes

Gerd Antes (born July 30, 1949 in Wasbek ) is a German mathematician and biometrician . He is considered a pioneer of evidence-based medicine in Germany.

Life

Gerd Antes studied electrical engineering and mathematics from 1969 to 1976 with a degree in mathematics at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the University of Bremen , where he obtained the doctorate degree with an analysis of survival data. rer. nat. received his doctorate. As an expert in statistics and biometrics, he worked at the Universities of Bremen and Freiburg and at Berliner Schering AG . From 1980 to 1981 he was a teacher of mathematics and physics, first in Berlin, where he passed his second state examination, and later in Bremen. From 1982 to 2018 Antes was a research assistant at the Institute for Medical Biometry and Medical Informatics at the University of Freiburg, interrupted by a two-year activity at the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology at the Clinic for Tumor Biology Freiburg. From 1997 to October 2018 Gerd Antes was director of the German Cochrane Center. In 2012 the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg appointed him honorary professor.

From 1998 Antes was one of the founders of the German Network Evidence-Based Medicine . From 2000 to 2006 he was a member of the board. In 2005 Gerd Antes was elected spokesman for the initiative group for the establishment of a national register for clinical studies.

Antes was a member of numerous domestic and foreign scientific commissions, including the Standing Vaccination Commission at the Robert Koch Institute (STIKO). He gave several lectures at events organized by the Society for the Scientific Investigation of Parasciences (GWUP).

Awards

Gerd Antes was awarded the German Medical Association's Badge of Honor in 2009.

In March 2019 Antes was made an honorary member of the DNEbM .
