Gerd Dicke (Germanist)

Gerd Dicke (* 1956 in Duisburg ) is a German Germanic Medievalist .

Life

From 1976 to 1981 he studied German and history in Marburg and Münster (1982: 1st state examination for teaching at secondary levels I and II). From 1982 to 1985 he was a research assistant at the SFB 7 ( Medieval Research ) at the University of Münster . From 1986 to 1991 he was a research assistant at the German Institute of the University of Münster; 1990 PhD . From 1992 to 1998 he was a research assistant at the Department of German Philology at the University of Göttingen . After completing his habilitation in 1998 ( venia legendi : German Philology), he held a chair at the University of Kiel in 1999 . From 1999 to 2002 he was a professor for German Medieval Studies at the University of Konstanz . Since 2002 he has held the chair for Older German Literature (Medieval Studies) at the University of Eichstätt . From 2007 to 2009 he was Dean of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literature at the KU Eichstätt - Ingolstadt .

His research focuses on smaller narrative forms (fable, example, mare, fazetie, joke), gnomics, courtly epics (especially Tristan), sermons, literature of early German humanism, material and motive history, tradition and book history (especially early printing) and historical semantics.
