Gerd Gruber (born April 27, 1982 in Graz ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player who was mainly active for the EC Graz 99ers and the EHC Linz in the Austrian ice hockey league , and is now a coach. Gruber was also an Austrian national player in inline hockey .

Career

Gruber began his career in the junior team at EC Graz , where he was supposed to play in the Austrian ice hockey league at the age of 16. But this did not happen because the team from Gruber's hometown became insolvent and had to stop playing. He only made his men's debut in the 1999/2000 season with the EC Graz 99ers, one class lower in the national league, and was able to advance to the Austrian ice hockey league with the newly founded club. In the elite league of the alpine country he then played with the Grazers until 2005, before he went to the Vienna Capitals , the then reigning champions, for a year . He then played for EHC Linz from 2006 to 2010 . After four years in Upper Austria, he returned to his home in Styria and joined the ATSE Graz from the National League. After the club stopped playing despite being runner-up in 2012, he moved to VEU Feldkirch in the Inter-National League , the successor to the National League . After ending his career in 2013, he helped out at the fourth-class EV Krems in the 2015/16 season.

International

In the junior division, Gruber played for Austria at the U18-B World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and the U20-C World Championship in 1999 and, after the changeover to the current division system, at the U20 World Championships in Division I in 2001 and 2002 .

He made his debut in the men's national team in the 2006/07 season. In 2008 he took part in the World Championship Division I, where he was promoted to the top division. He was then used several times in the national team until 2010, but was no longer nominated for world championship tournaments.

Coaching career

After his active career, Gruber worked as a trainer and was assistant coach for the Austrians at the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2017 and 2018 .

Inline hockey

Gruber also played internationally in inline hockey for Austria, for example he was part of the Alpine team at the Division I World Championship in 2014 in Pardubice, Czech Republic .
