Promotion to the Bundesliga

Since there were massive problems with the field of participants in the Bundesliga in the 1999/2000 season (only four teams took part in the championship, but two of them withdrew at the end of the season), the two leagues were merged for the coming 2000/01 season . Only the farm team of the two Carinthian Bundesliga teams, the Telekom Austria team, was disbanded and did not take part in the top division. Since with this step in the 2000/01 season there was no longer any de facto second division, the upper division served as the second performance level in this season.
