The 2002/03 season of the Austrian national ice hockey league was played with eight teams. Last year's champions EC Supergau Feldkirch had made use of their right to promotion to the Bundesliga and therefore did not appear in the National League this season. EK Zell am See became the new champion .

8 teams took part. After Feldkirch's promotion to the Bundesliga and the withdrawal of EC Kitzbühel and SV Ehrwald , EK Zell am See and the KSV ice hockey club were added. Kapfenberg went into the second division as a relegated team in the previous season, EK Zell am See decided to take this step for financial reasons.

The regular round was played as a double round trip, with the points scored by all teams halved after half of the games (point sharing). All eight teams were automatically qualified for the playoffs. Quarter and semi-finals were held as the best of three series. The final was determined with a best of five series of champions.
