Patrick Machreich (born September 29, 1980 in Zell am See ) is an Austrian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with EK Zell am See in the Alps Hockey League since 2017 .

Career

Machreich began his career in the junior teams of EK Zell am See and made his debut in the fighting team in the second division in the 1998/99 season . In the course of the next few years he came to increased missions. In the middle of the 2002/03 season he ventured abroad and signed a contract with Ahmat Hyvinkää in Mestis , Finland , but where he could not convince and quickly returned to Austria. He then spent two seasons with the Graz 99ers , where he first formed the goalkeeper duo with Rastislav Rovnianek and later with Walter Bartholomäus . The two years marked the beginning of long-lasting sporting difficulties for the 99ers, so Machreich switched to EC VSV and replaced regular goalkeeper Gert Prohaska there . In the 2005/06 season he won his first championship title with the club.

For the 2006/07 season he was signed by EHC Linz , who wanted to establish an Austrian solution for the goalkeeper position with him and Jürgen Penker . Machreich brought consistently better performances and soon rose to the undisputed number one. Despite good performances, he was eliminated with the club in the quarterfinals against his previous club, the EC VSV. In the following year the tide turned when Penker performed consistently better and pushed Machreich back into the second member. As it was already clear in the middle of the season that the Linzers had signed a successor for the coming season in Alex Westlund , Machreich had no more space in the team and he finally accepted an offer from the EHC Lustenau from the National League. With the offensively strong club, he was able to win the championship title in his first season. From the 2010/11 season Machreich was under contract with VEU Feldkirch until the end of the 2011/12 season. After that he was with HC Innsbruck for three years and from 2015 he played again with EHC Lustenau.

International

Machreich also has three calls-up for the national team. In 2000 he represented Austria at the U-20 World Cup. Five years later he played his only game for the men's national team and in the same year formed the goalkeeper duo with Hannes Enzenhofer at the Universiade , where Austria took a respectable fourth place.
