Gerd Herzberg

Gerd Herzberg (born July 7, 1950 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer and former deputy chairman of the United Services Union (ver.di).

Life

After graduating from high school in Hamburg-Rahlstedt in 1970 , he studied law at the University of Hamburg from 1970 to 1976 . In 1976 Herzberg passed his first state examination in law and passed the second state examination in 1978 after completing his legal clerkship. From 1979 to 1984 he worked as a trade union secretary on the federal executive board of the German Employees' Union (DAG) in the economic policy department with a focus on co-determination . Until 1987 he worked in the department of the DAG chairman in the area of ​​human resources and policy department. He headed the personnel and policy department of the DAG federal board from 1987. In 1997 he was elected to the federal board of the DAG and was responsible for the areas of organizational development, advertising and finance, member service and information and communication technology. In 2000 he also took over the education policy department.

Herzberg is married and has two children.

Tasks in ver.di

At the founding congress of the United Services Union (ver.di) in March 2001 in Berlin, Herzberg was elected deputy chairman. At the federal congress in October 2003 he was re-elected with 76.6 percent of the delegate votes, at the federal congress in 2007 he received 82.6 percent of the votes in the re-election. In 2011 he did not run for reasons of age. He was responsible for finance and organization on the federal executive board. Herzberg is a member of the supervisory board of DGB Rechtsschutz GmbH of the German Trade Union Confederation , the energy company Vattenfall Europe AG , Deutsche Bank and Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH . He is one of three members of the Board of Directors of the Education and Profession Foundation of the German Employees Academy ( DAA ).
